About This Episode
The Start Building Podcast helps building product industry professionals stay in tune with technology and innovation that is changing the way we do business. We talk with founders, innovators, and dreamers that are disrupting our industry. We aim to inspire you to start building.
In this episode, Tim chats with Gabe Paez, Founder and CEO of The Wild on how their Augmented and Virtual Reality solutions are allowing architects, engineers and the construction industry to collaborate virtually on the design of their spaces before they are built. Saving time and money by being more efficient and solving problems earlier in the process.
What is The Wild?
Founded in 2017, The Wild’s mission is to shorten the distance between ideas and shared experiences. Over 60,000 leading architects, designers, engineers, and builders use The Wild and IrisVR to connect their teams across distances for better collaboration, presentations, and BIM coordination through a blend of Virtual and Augmented Reality.
Is virtual collaboration better than physical collaboration?
It’s clear that immersive technology like Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality allows The Wild to be incredibly useful and beneficial during the COVID pandemic. Teams are working from home, business travel is on hold, but work still needs to get done. The Wild allows remote teams to be together in a virtual space to collaborate and design in real-time. Whether you are on a computer, an iPad, phone or virtual reality headset, you can be a part of the collaboration.
What’s fascinating is that many architects that are using The Wild actually prefer the virtual collaboration more than being in the same room. Rather than one person presenting a PowerPoint or having control over a 3D environment - everyone in the room has control. You have an idea? Don’t talk about it, simply build it and visually bring it to life.
The lightbulb moment for The Wild is when they realized internally that they preferred collaborating and designing inside The Wild more than a team sitting in a room. It was more efficient, they solved problems quicker and were more confident in their decisions. Plus, it was fun.
Why is it named The Wild?
I got goosebumps when Gabe explained the meaning behind the name. Not only is it cool, but it’s inspiring. Their mission statement is in the name. I’ll give you a hint, but listen to the podcast at the 25:30 mark to hear it in Gabe’s own words. Hint: Wake-Induced Lucid Dreams.
